Even though Rukavac is located on rocky southern shore of the island of Vis, there are many very nice and diverse beaches in the immediate vicinity. Here we will describe beaches west from Rukavac, so please be advised that further information about beach in Bargujac, beach Zaglav, beach Milna and beach on the island of "Veli Budikovac" can be found in separate article on beaches in Milna.
Beach "Stori Rukovac" is small pebble beach situated on the bottom of narrow bay, around 200 metres of walking distance from the centre of the village of Rukavac. It is accessible by a path that leads from the main road. The car access there is possible, but not advised since there are no public parking places there. The shore of the small bay is very rocky, so the beach is not accessibly by coast from the centre of Rukavac. Located in the oldest part of the village of Rukavac, this very small beach offers large pebbles, some natural shade under a palm tree, and sea perfectly clear for swimming and snorkelling just few steps from the centre of the village of Rukavac
Located in the very centre of the village of Rukavac, this pebble beach usually offers first swimming experience for new visitors of Rukavac. This is 25 metres long pebble beach, with shallow entrance to the sea, and with several concrete piers that are used by local people as moorings for their boats. There is no shade on the beach, and there several restaurants and cafe bars around it. The location of the beach in the very centre of Rukavac is it's most important characteristic. Even though the sea here is perfectly clear, we would recommend exploring other beaches in vicinity in search for your favourite spot during your stay in Rukavac. This beach is perfect for occasional refreshment in the sea, but we would not recommend it as your main bathing spot, since in the vicinity there are some of the most fabulous beaches on the island.
Beach "Veliki Teplus" (or just Teplus) is one of the most popular beaches in Rukavac, especially among local population. Located on the outskirts of the village, just 400 metres from the centre, yet surrounded by beautiful nature, this beach offers everything one needs for a perfect day on the beach: crystal clear sea, beautiful and gentle pebbles with some sand parts ideal for children, shallow sea, some natural shade under the pine trees and a restaurant/cafe bar for snacks and refreshment during hot summer days. Next to the pebble beach stone slabs are located which are also used for sunbathing, and offer fun for children who use them for jumping in the sea and for fishing. The beach is accessible by car with a narrow road from Rukavac, with large parking just above the restaurant. The beach is oriented towards east with beautiful view of the islet Ravnik and it receives sunshine from earliest morning hours until mid-afternoon, when large stones around it provide some shade. The beach is shielded from prevailing summer western winds by cape Polivalo, so if you are looking for a perfect beach for your child or baby during your stay in Rukavac, we can definitely recommend beach Templus. The beach is shielded with a safety net that prohibits boats from docking, thus providing additional security for swimmers. Beach "Moli Teplus" (small Teplus) is next to "Veliki Teplus" to the east, between "Veliki Teplus" and Rukavac. "Moli Teplus" is 20 metres long pebble beach just 200 metres from the village centre. Without restaurant or bar, it offers somewhat more privacy than "Veliki Teplus".
